Incredibly Cool

I once interviewed someone for the TV, and they described what they did as “incredibly cool”.
It often gets me thinking about things that I’ve done that are incredibly cool.
- I’ve done a lap of Bathurst in the front seat of a Commodore… driven by Peter Brock.
- I appeared on the 1999 Faraday Lecture for an international television audience.
- I’ve done data logging on race cars for such deadest gurus as John Bowe and Craig Baird, as well as James Winslow, who will be up there one day with them…
- I got an A for grade 8 music by playing two miniature didgeridoos simultaneously.
- I’ve commentated motorsport for some time, especially from pit lane, where I’ve had the fortune to interview pretty much all of the legends of motorsport many times over, and over. But still, the coolest thing has been sitting next to Barry Oliver calling a V8 race.
- I met the President’s of the United States of America at their last ever gig before they broke up. I refuse to recognise that they have subsequently gotten back together.
- In 1998 I got Alex Zanardi’s autograph, as he was walking out of a toilet laughing out loud at something that just happened…
- I write and take photos for Auto Action. The best two words I’ve ever gotten published are “doof doof”, and the best photo ever was used in a “Find Burti”. In comparison, cover shots are nothing.
- Subsequently, I’ve witnessed my work for sale in Borders Bookstores. That is cool.
